This is my friend Steve Poltz. He’s a very funny guy… and he’s very smart. We talk about things like Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner. He wrote the greatest love song of all time… “Everything About You”… I won’t debate anyone on it. It’s my opinion. And what makes it an amazing song is the song is honest, simple, and captures the moments in life where we KNOW we love someone.
Steve is having his 50th birthday again and this year, I’ll miss it. Because I am here in Roatan and not in San Diego. Today is his real birthday.
But there is more to the story… He’s still with us. We are lucky to have him, and maybe one day he’ll come to Roatan and meet up with some of the other great musicians here and we can have a big party. Steve would fit right in because he’s never met a stranger, he will make you laugh until you cry and he will sing songs that will make you laugh and cry.
Steve was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, North America… and lives in San Diego. He’d fit right in here on the island.
Happy Birthday Steve… I’m not sure of the exact number but it’s too many candles to put on a cake without setting off a smoke alarm.
I am playing songs by Steve on 101.1fm… You’ll hear one soon enough…
Read this article about Steve… It’s very compelling. Published in the San Diego Union Tribune, it’s written by one of the best music writers in the United States…

A perfectly fitting tribute to a definite original. There’s really no one quite like Steve…

One of the funniest interviews I remember you doing was with Steve Poltz…I was working as a crossing guard and started laughing so hard on the corner I am sure people thought I was crazy…it was the story he told about having his chest waxed! This is the stuff I really miss now that your gone from SD, miss your morning stories and interviews…they were funny with substance!
