The Coconut Telegraph and … Oh wait… Eggs are good for me?

CoconutHeadphonesI give up… are eggs good for me?

And what does that have to do with the Coconut Telegraph?

It’s 7:18, I’m hungry, and I’m reading an article that EGGS are ok to eat again and that the intake of animal cholesterol has nothing whatsoever to do with the cholesterol manufactured by our bodies… And that such well-meaning but incorrect advice about things as eggs and shellfish has been going around for almost 50 years.

So you ask wisely, how does this happen?

It happens when someone or something we respect “says so” and we buy it hook line and sinker…

I’ve attached the article so you can read it for yourself if you want (I suggest it because without a doubt someone will argue with you and you can politely listen to them as they try to tell you, “YOU are wrong… ” And you can just smile…)

So here’s what happens…

Harvard University’s school of public health publishes a paper and the news, like the COCONUT TELEGRAPH picks it up and spreads the word. In this case and in many others, as an institution, Harvard is really influential. No one ever questions the research or findings. SO after almost 50 years, finally, the National Institute of Public Health decided to try and reproduce the “findings”…

They found that the findings couldn’t be reproduced in controlled studies.

Now how does that relate to the Roatan’s Coconut Telegraph?

Well there was the rumor that 101.1fm closed our doors… NOPE… Never happened.

We did install a backup generator powered by hamsters who run on hamster wheels, which is cheaper and safer than lead batteries, that is true…

And we have installed an alien landing strip on top of the BoHo Beach Club… with take out service for any extra-terrestrials… Honduran Customs even had one of those special hand scanners installed up there too…

and NO … I’m not making this stuff up…

So if anyone asks what I had for breakfast this morning, eggs, toast with apple jelly, copious amounts of coffee, and a wafer-thin mint.

Ok… have a great day… I have to go and feed the hamsters.
