Coming Soon … but not soon enough for me…

NoWeAren'tCLOSEDHi friends…

I’m being asked alot of great questions… such as “when will you be broadcasting over the island again…”

My first response is to say… SOON… (and the unspoken response is NOT soon enough for me.) If you live on ROATAN… then you know that there are environmental challenges here that don’t exist in too many places…

I made a pledge when I took over the operation of 101.1 fm that I would only broadcast if and when I could be certain the station would not go off the air. There aren’t too many things that can cause that to happen… neither here nor anywhere else. We were ready to go full-time again just a little over a week ago when our AIR CONDITIONER failed. We’d already identified that it was failing… so we had proactively shipped one from the US and it had arrived in Miami for shipping to Roatan.

Two days later the fan in the AC Unit failed completely … it literally broke apart.

This is a critical element. Without the AC unit, the tranmitter generates a tremendous amount of heat. At 90 C it shuts down. The air in the transmitter facility, has to be kept at less than 28 C for things to operate without shutting down. THERE WERE NO GOOD OPTIONS. The replacement units we found on the island were substandard and a bad investment.

WE ARE NOT CLOSED…  (I heard this rumor going around the “coconut telegraph.” and it’s just not true…)

It was heartbreaking for us.But in the end it was a great thing because it allowed us to get some more work … the behind the scenes work completed. SO we were told by the shipping company that the AC unit will be here on February 19th…

At that time, it will take all of about 60 minutes to put install it… and after that we will be broadcasting…

As I told my friend Richard Warren of RECO … at that point, barring an act of God (insurance term)… the only thing that will take us down is a power failure at the Tower… so to all of you who are patiently and impatiently waiting… THANK YOU… talk to you soon on the radio…
